Why we are proud to offer Equal Exchange Coffee.....
Their coffee is certified organic and most is "shade grown" - grown under taller trees. These taller trees provide wood or fruit while protecting and adding nutrients to the coffee plants and preventing soil erosion. These shade grown farms also provide a vital wildlife habitat for migratory birds.
It is certified "Fair Trade" coffee. Unrestrained trade has particularly painful consequences in developing countries where local regulations fail to protect workers and uphold environmental standards. Corporations seek countries with the lowest production costs - and the cheapest labor pools. "Fair Trade" means Equal Exchange provides fair wages to low income farmers, encourages sound business and farming practices, and provides aid in community development.
